With a land area the same as Pukapuka, Rakahanga is the sister island of Manihiki, 26 miles (42 km) to the south. It has a rectangular shape with a lagoon surrounded by two islands and seven small 'motu' (islets).


 
1 North Motu - from the inner lagoon looking towards the only settlement om Nivano.
2 West Islets - western side of the atoll with islets separating the logoon and the South Pacific.
